Where Kids are Kings and Queens
Sure there’s plenty to do with the kids at local ski resorts—like tubing, skiing, boarding and more—but what to do when you slide off the slope? We’ve compiled a list of all-weather fun the whole family can enjoy.
OUTSIDE
Skate date:
Lace up a pair of blades and take a spin at the Resort at Squaw Creek or Truckee River Regional Park rinks, or sign up for a hockey or figure skating lesson at the
indoor South Tahoe Ice Arena.
Horse around:
Climb aboard a horse-drawn sleigh at Camp Richardson Corral or Borges Sleigh Rides near the Stateline casinos.
Get mushy:
Bundle into a sled and fly across the snow pulled by a pack of eager pups with Running Creek Sled Dogs in Kirkwood, Husky Express in Hope Valley and
Wilderness Adventures at the Resort at Squaw Creek and
Sugar Bowl.
INSIDE
Hit the lanes:
Cabin fever? Too cold to be outside? Tahoe Bowl on South Shore and Bowl Incline on North Shore will be right up your alley.
Get vertical:
Scale the indoor rock climbing wall at Squaw Valley’s Cable Car building, around the bouldering gym at Truckee’s Sports Exchange or around the new 4,000
square foot climbing gym (opening early this winter) at High Altitude Fitness in Incline Village.
Mold me:
Make candles of all shapes and sizes at the Village at Squaw Valley’s Waxen Moon or Northstar’s Villager Candle.
Throw some clay:
Paint your own pottery or make mosaics at All Fired Up! in Tahoe City, or stop by Truckee’s T Pots Pottery for a drop-in clay day or ceramic class.
Get a jump on it:
Tumble on the 15-foot low-lying trampoline track, jump in the ball pit, then navigate through tunnels, climbing obstacles and the giant crayon balance beam at Tahoe Tot Spot Mini Gym & Play Center in South Lake Tahoe.
Get scrappy:
Take a scrapbook class (try the Cabin Fever Crop) at Paper Paradise in Truckee.
Spin a yarn:
Knit something comfy and cozy at the Wool Tree in South Lake Tahoe.
Be dazzled:
Get crafty with beads, gemstones, silver and gold at Farrah Ralé Bead Design Studio at the Village at Northstar or Gioielli in downtown Truckee.
Go fore it:
Hit the links—no green grass required—with the simulator inside Truckee’s Winterland Golf Studio.
Explore and learn: Visit the KidZone Museum in Truckee or the UC Davis omas J. Long Foundation Education Center in Incline Village.
Go gaming:
Casinos aren’t just for the over-21 crowd; the 20,000 square foot Arcade at Harrah’s contains over 150 video and ticket-for-prizes games as well as a large jump ’n
slide and air hockey table.
